With the release of his expansive and thoughtful third album "Beginners Mind," John Budnik Band continues to showcase the genre fluidity and creative charm that the artist possesses, delving into styles like rock, blues, soul and beyond to craft a sound that feels as distinctive and authentic as the man who puts it together - something exemplified by its lead single and title track. The collection of songs were recorded in the artist's garage in Palmer, Alaska and are inspired by Philip Toshio Sudo's book "Zen Guitar," with the intention of assembling every facet of the sound and its process with an open mind. This includes doing away with any ideas of right and wrong that the artist has and instead approaching the music as if he were a beginner, uninhibited by the conventional ideas that musicians are often restrained to. The unique direction that the artist takes on these tracks, the philosophical nature that is often found within his work, and the emphasis on things like acceptance and having a mindset of enlightenment are reflected seamlessly through his work. There are no constraints on Beginners Mind, no particular structures or rules, just an artist feeling his way through his sound and exploring it as naturally and openly as he can.
